Mass Effect series writer Drew Karpyshyn has returned to BioWare three and a half years after leaving the studio.
Karpyshyn announced in 2012 that he had “retired” from the game industry and that his parting was “completely amicable and 100 per cent my decision”.
In a new blog post, the writer said he was now back at the studio having finished work on his novel trilogy Chaos Born. At BioWare’s Austin office, he’ll be working on MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic. He added for the moment, he would not be working on any new projects at the company.
Before his departure over three years ago, Karpyshyn had worked at BioWare for more than a decade. He wrote for games such as Mass Effect 1 and 2, Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars: The Old Republic.
“Working at BioWare was a challenging but very rewarding job, and it’s good to be back as part of the team,” said Karpyshyn.
“The thing I missed most about BioWare was the amazing people I got to work with, and luckily for me many of them are still there! I suspect a lot of folks are going to wonder if this means BioWare is about to announce a new project tied to my return. The short answer: no. I originally came to the Austin studio many years ago to work on SWTOR and – at least for now – that’s what I’m focusing on again.”
