Publisher and platform holder disinterest prompted project cancellation

A planned Wii U version of shooter Crysis 3 has been canned after a lack of interest from EA and Nintendo, Crytek CEO and president Cevat Yerli has said.

“We did have Crysis 3 running on the Wii U. We were very close to launching it,” Yerli told VentureBeat.

“But there was a lack of business support between Nintendo and EA on that. Since we as a company couldn’t launch on the Wii U ourselves – we don't have a publishing license – Crysis 3 on Wii U had to die.”

Wii U has been subject to a number of misses when it comes to ports from PS3 and Xbox 360. Following a poor critical and consumer reception for Aliens: Colonial Marines, there was speculation that its scheduled Wii U version would be cancelled, but as it stands the title is still believed to be in production.

Nintendo has been positioning Wii U as a machine for core gamers, investing money to get titles such as Batman: Arkham City, Assassin’s Creed III and Call of Duty: Black Ops II on the system.

Michel Ancel protested the delay to his former system exclusive, Rayman Legends, after Ubisoft announced it would be launching the game alongside other current platforms.
