Mobile specialist Kabam is parting with the past in order to set its sights on the future.
The firm has sold a number of its older titles to Chinese publisher Gaea Mobile, in an effort to concentrate on its biggest games, such as Marvel Contest of Champions and Star Wars: Uprising.
Among the ‘first-generation’ IP transferred to Gaea is Kingdoms of Camelot: Battle for the North, The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-earth and Dragons of Atlantis: Heirs of the Dragon. All three of the franchises have generated more than $100 million in revenue.
“From a management perspective, we don’t want to split our focus,” Kabam COO Kent Wakeford told GamesBeat.
“We don’t think that is the way to really succeed. We want to put the smartest people on the biggest opportunities. Supercell is a great example. It’s about being able to create franchises that last years and years.”
Kabam is no stranger to parting with its IP – it previously sold off its social games business on RockYou back in 2014.
