"This time there's not a MIDI soundcard in sight"

The soundtrack to the original Transport Tycoon has been remastered by composer and Develop columnist John Broomhall.

Released as 'Transport Tycoon – The 2014 Sessions' each of the 22 jazz, funk and latin tracks has been re-arranged and re-recorded by JB and the TT Band, and Broomhall promises that "this time there's not a single MIDI soundcard in sight".

"It's been an absolute blast and I'm enormously grateful to game development legend and creator of TT, Chris Sawyer, for the opportunity," said Broomhall. "Over the years since the game was released, I've had an incredible amount of support for, and interest in, the music – even though its genesis was on such rudimentary technology.

"There are many hacked versions of the tunes out there on YouTube, but I've always dreamed of being able to release definitive cuts as I originally heard them, using live players and the latest technology."

The new music can be found in the full version of Transport Tycoon on iOS and Android, a remastered version of the original game. You can listen to extracts over at Broomhall's Soundcloud page.

Broomhall is also hoping to release the soundtrack separately and even arrange some live performances with his games industry colleagues.

"Actually, there's quite a few brilliant closet jazzers lurking about in the games' industry and it's long been an ambition of mine to get them all together for a massive jam workout."

Broomhall was most recently co-composer on Xbox One launch title Forza Motorsport 5 and is author of monthly Develop audio column, Heard About. You can find our archive of Heard About articles here.
