Irrational has withdrawn the requirement that potential applicants for the position of design manager should have worked on one game with a Metacritic score of 85 or better.
The job listing from the BioShock developer drew criticism for its previous reliance on the controversial review aggregate site, which has long been used by the industry to gauge the critical reception of their games.
Though some in the industry question the reliability of such scores- and the logic of review scores in general- Metacritic and other aggregate sites have been used to assign bonuses for developers.
The contract between Activision and Bungie, for instance, will award the Halo developers $2.5 million dollars if the promised game attains a GameRankings.com score of 90+.
Obsidian famously lost out on bonuses when Fallout New Vegas fell short of its metacritic goal by one point.
