UK development outfit Introversion has regained the rights to the DS edition of Defcon, following the collapse of former distributing partner Pinnacle Software.
The game, which is in a finished state yet remains unpublished, was originally developed in conjunction with Pinnacle. Back in December, however, Pinnacle was placed into administration after 16 years of business.
In the company’s final year, Pinnacle trialled a co-publishing model with developers which saw it box, market and distribute products for studios. Yet the rights to a number of games soon became a complicated issue as group fell into administration.
Introversion, having now fully regained the rights to the SKU, is now seeking a new publisher. The indie developer says it anticipates considerable interest in the title.
“With the DSi flying off the shelves recently, we believe that there will be particular interest in a finished DS product with such a great track record, especially as the RTS/Strategy sector is so poorly served on the platform,“ said Mark Morris, Director at Introversion.
Introversion has appointed Bad Management to aid the developer in its search for a publishing partner. John Cook, Senior Partner at Bad Management, says that in the current economic climate companies are “placing a premium on finished products with a well-established brand and track record.”
Cook added that Defcon DS is a “fantastic publishing opportunity, and we’re confident we will be able to find the right fit for Introversion.”
