Devs to get up to 90 per cent revenue share if 100 games are published before February
IndieCity, the new PC games platform tailored for independent developers, has extended its deadline for a competition that could give game creators a 90 per cent revenue cut on their published projects.
The new online games platform – which promises will not allow high profile games to muscle out smaller titles on the store’s front page – normally offers developers an 85 per cent royalty rate on sales (75 per cent if an achievements API is not integrated).
Yet if 100 games are published by January 31st, the rate will increase to 90 per cent for a single month.
The initial deadline was December 31st, though IndieCity’s catalogue had missed its target by about 40 games.
At the time of going to press, Indie City had published 62 games on its PC portal.
IndieCity incorporates an Amazon.com-like recommendations system that customises the storefront for each individual user.
The platform’s creator, Blitz Games Studios, believes the sophistication of the recommendations engine is an elegant solution to discoverability issues within the oceanic indie games market.
“What we’re trying to do is allow developers to make the most noise about their work,” said IndieCity project lead Chris Swan in a recent interview with Develop.
“We’re really proud of the recommendation engine, where we give customers an individual endorsements based on what they’ve played before,” he added.
