The data from Unity Analytics opened the NASSCOM Game Developer Conference 2017 showing that in just ten months the popularity of gaming in the country has massively increased
The NASSCOM Game Developer Conference in India launched this morning, with the country flying up the growth rankings according to date from Unity. The conference which has partnered this year with Unity to bring the Unite conference alongside it will see over 3000 attendees at the Hyderabad International Conference Centre over the next three days.
Starting with an introduction by NASSCOM chair, Rajesh Rao, the sentiment behind the conference this year is to show how India has grown as a game developing country. Games from India are now being played globally and also in India.
According to Unity Analytics tracking, India has leapt up the rankings of with an increasing number gamers. In January 2017, Unity ranked India as the ninth biggest country in the world for games downloaded. Just ten months later in November, it has climbed to be the third biggest country, ahead of Russia.
Games such as Food Truck Chef from Nukebox Studios in Bangalore, which made $1.3m in revenue globally in less than 100 days with 4.7 million downloads, and Gametion’s Ludo King with its 10 million daily active users has shown that audiences for Indian developed games are growing.
For the first time ever, the conference also has an Indian Keynote speaker with Nukebox Studios CEO Amit Hardi who looked back at how the studio had to make many games in order to improve quality, saying “you have to make ten OK games to make one amazing game.”
The quality of games is increasing exponentially. The winners for the NASSCOM Games Forum game awards will be announced later on Thursday, but the NGF Awards Jury, which included Develop deputy editor Sean Cleaver, said, “the seventh position game this year would have won the award two -years back.”
