Console team axed from Texas studio; Japan studio feared closed

Struggling publisher Ignition Games has issued redundancies at what may be the company’s only remaining studio in the west.

It is also alleged, though not confirmed, that Ignition’s Japan-based studio has closed completely.

An anonymous source, thought to be close to the matter, claims that the entire console team at Ignition’s Austin, Texas studio have been made redundant.

Around fifteen people were greeted with guards at the Austin studio and told to go home, a source told Gamasutra.

"We can confirm that a small console team, which was working on pre-production of an unannounced title, was laid off. The PC team was unaffected,” read a statement issued by the company.

In March, Ignition admitted that its Florida outfit had shut its doors but claimed the UK studio had been spared of total closure. It is unknown if the British outfit remains operational.

Former Ignition employees claim the group’s Tokyo office has ceased operations.

Reports detailing Ignition’s gradual reduction, across eighteen months, can be found here.
