‘What matters now, as always, is what we do rather than what we say’
No Man’s Sky developer Hello Games has boosted its efforts to quell some of the post-release player complaints about its ambitious sci-fi exploration title.
The game launched on PS4 and PC in early August after multiple delays and much anticipation and rocketed (pun intended) to the top of the charts on both Steam and the PlayStation Store – taking Hello to the lifty heights of our own studio sales rankings.
However, in the days and weeks after its successful release, the title started to run into trouble, with widespread reports of player Steam refund requests and grievances from sections of the community posted across social media and forums.
The main point of contention appears to be the suggestion that Hello Games misrepresented No Man’s Sky during its development, with unhappy players accusing the ‘finished’ title (which has since been bolstered by four updates, including a day one patch) of not delivering on some of its biggest promises, such as online multiplayer, deeper exploration and crafting elements, and more.
Hello referred to the game’s divisive nature in an update on its blog, saying it had been “inundated with feedback and discussion about No Man’s Sky”.
Assuring players it continues to listen to feedback both good and bad, the studio revealed that it has hired a community/support management team which will categorise issues and “fix them in order of priority”.
“What matters now, as always, is what we do rather than what we say,” Hello added.
“We’re developers, and our focus is first on resolving any issues people have with the game as it is, then on future free updates which will improve, expand and build on the No Man’s Sky universe.
“This is a labour of love for us, and it’s just the beginning."
