Our monthly audio focus takes a look at composing for adventure games

In today’s tech feature Develop talks with Pedro Macedo Camacho about composing the soundtrack for the next adventure game from some of the key members of the Monkey Island team.

As well as revealing his delight in joining heroes of his on a professional basis, Camacho details the creative and technical process of arranging a score for a genre where narrative and character are more important than ever.

As the ‘point ‘n’ click’ makes something of an understated return, A Vampyre Story gave the composer a chance to build a continuous and subtly linked musical backdrop, which wasn’t a process without challenge.

“Technically, I didn’t have the luxury of a full live orchestra,” said Camacho, adding: “So, over the course of the development, I re-made the music three times to keep up-to-date with the very best sample technology and libraries becoming available along the way, even tweaking the compositions to take best advantage of the newer libraries.
