Studio executive Peter Vesterbacka hints at Summer reveal

Rovio, the Finland-based creator of Angry Birds, today confirmed it is working on an animated movie based on the smartphone title.

Speaking at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, studio executive Peter Vesterbacka told a packed room “we are working on a full-length Angry Birds movie.”

The confirmation brings to an end months of speculation on whether the studio would attempt to fire its blockbuster IP into the Hollywood stronghold.

In August, the studio said that it had been negotiating with various Hollywood studios on creating an Angry Birds film, yet nothing had been officially confirmed.

Speculation intensified once again in January, as the Finnish studio announced it had agreed with 20th Century Fox to use its brand in Rio – an upcoming feature-length animation following a blue macaw.

That film is set for the cinemas in April, but Vesterbacka hinted that people should keep their eyes peeled over the summer for any new announcements.
