GDC: YoYo Games prices GameMaker: Studio

Price tag of $99 for affordable core PC and Mac engine; other platforms added at extra cost

YoYo Games has priced its casual and social games development toolkit GameMaker:Studio.

The toolset, currently in public Beta, will on release ship for $99 with support for Mac and PC development. Those wishing to use the engine's support for iOS, Android, HTML5 and Symbian will have to pay a further $200 per platform, and need to be a registered developer for those target devices.

The easy-to-use tool is aimed at indies and small-to-medium sized studios, and offers and integrated development environment conceived to speed up development times and simplify prototyping and the creation of final product.

GameMaker:Studio uses an event-driven system and drag-and-drop interface, and gives users a native source control environment, native physics support, internal image editors and an internal customisable code editor.

YoYo games is a developer itself, and creator of the existing GameMaker platform, which delivers a lower spec than Studio for hobbiests and professionals alike.
