Event set to take place next week using GDC name may face legal challengeIt seems even the conference circuit is no stranger to IP infringement - GDC organiser CMP has moved to distance itself from an upcoming 'GDC Russia'.
Set to take place next week, the event uses the 'GDC' name. CMP organised a GDC Russia last year, although is not organising one this year.
A statement published over at Gamasutra reads:
"At the Game Developers Conference and our regional GDC events, we greatly appreciate the opportunity to provide learning, inspiration, and networking to you to support your efforts to make better games. In turn, we recognize that you associate a high level of editorial integrity and industry-wide support with the Game Developers Conference brand.
"With that in mind, we therefore are compelled to notify you that the event currently representing itself as GDC Russia is in fact not associated with CMP's Game Group, and is not authorized to use the Game Developers Conference brand.
"While we did partner with a local consumer games publication to present a GDC Russia event last year, we did not renew that partnership, and we are currently exploring our legal options regarding this situation.
"Instead, we look forward to delivering on your expectations at LyonGDC, ChinaGDC, AustinGDC, GDC Prime, and of course the world’s Game Developers Conference."
The firm's next game developer event is GDC Prime, the invite-only event for senior execs, which takes place in San Diego from December 4th to 6th, at the same time as Lyon GDC.
