New motion controller will use minimal system space

GDC: PS Move requires a mere 2MB of RAM

At a GDC panel titled “Introducing the Playstation Move Controller”, SCEA’s David Coombes revealed that the memory requirements of the new motion controller will be no more than 2 MB of system memory, as reported by Joystiq.

The announcement will come as a great relief to the 36 studios partnered to the Move platform, who will see no discernable difference in the amount of system memory they can play with on the PS3.

Elsewhere in the presentation the panel, also featuring Kirk Bender and Anton Mikhailov, showcased Move’s tracking capabilities, claiming that the system will be able to recognise players by face contour and feature detection.

Move’s response rate was previously said to be that of the Dualshock and Sixaxis contoller – just under one frame.
