Trade body brings the 'best of British' to developers conference in San Francisco

GDC 13: UKIE flies flag for British games industry

British games and interactive entertainment trade body UKIE is at GDC in San Francisco this week to promote the UK games industry and its skilled talents.

The trade body will be promoting some of the best development talent and games businesses that the UK has to offer, and intends to show overseas investors that the UK is one of the best places in the world to make and sell games.

The UKIE team is running the UK industry stand for UKTI at GDC Play where conference attendees can meet the exhibitors and see their games and products.

“We’re in San Francisco with one mission: to shout about the UK being the best place in the world to make and sell games,” said UKIE CEO Jo Twist.

“We’ve got some amazing development talent with us at Game Connection and GDC this year and with tax breaks round the corner there’s never been a better time to declare the UK games industry as open for business. We’ve also got some inflatable furniture and free Wi-Fi on the official UK stand at GDC, which all UK developers are free to use. So make sure you pop by to say hello.”

Another event that the trade body will be involved in is the judging and winner’s presentation of GDC Plane Jam on Thursday, March 28th at 4pm PST at the UKIE GDC Play stand (see more here).

It will also be present at Game Connection America, along with a number of UK companies, including Playniac and Realtime UK.

Other UK businesses will also be holding meetings at the UKIE stand include: Exient, Fayju, Mastertronic, MPG Universal, Multiplay and Universally Speaking.

And, with nod to our overseas’ cousins’ admiration for the Royal Family, the trade body is giving visitors the chance to ‘be royalty for the day’, by get their photo taken as the Royal Couple, Kate and Will.

UKIE has welcomed any UK developers and games businesses attending GDC to visit its stand for meetings to use free Wi-Fi or even plug-in to recharge their kit. The UK games industry stand can be found at GDC Play, Stand MR25 (March 25th to 29th).
