Ambitious developer aims to be 'the top studio in the world'

Metal Gear Solid developer Kojima Productions has confirmed it has opened a new studio in Los Angeles.

Revealing the news during a GDC 13 presentation discussing the Fox Engine and Metal Gear Solid 5, the developer said it would focus on creating “the highest quality interactive entertainment which brings deep emotional experiences”.

Other core values set out by the studio included "quality first" and building games on top of cutting edge technology, innovative art styles and interactive gameplay design supported by a creative environment.

The new developer will be based in the Hercules Campus in Playa Vista, Los Angeles. The office is around 30,000 sq ft, and includes its own testing and screening rooms.

In an ambitious statement, the developer said it wanted to become “the top studio in the world”.

After announcing the studio, Hideo Kojima quipped “Unfortunately we’re not recruiting at Moby Dick Studios”.

News of an LA branch for Japanese studio Kojima Productions emerged in September last year after a job listing for the developer outed the company, which stated the firm was working on a 3D action game.

It is not known however what specific projects the studio is currently working on.
