GDC 13: IKinema opens animation platform WebAnimate

Mo-cap data tool WebAnimate gives animators control of asset storage from local drives, network servers and the cloud

Motion Capture specialist IKinema has officially opened its browser animation platform WebAnimate.

The new web portal has been designed to bring Action’s suite of tools to all animators, with access to the firm’s rigging, retargeting, solving and motion capture dev technology available through the service.

WebAnimate will allow the control of asset storage from local drives, network servers and the cloud, which IKinema said will enable studios and individual artists to collaborate on projects globally, with the ability to share files at any time.

“WebAnimate opens the doors to all levels of artists ranging from small game developers, indie studios, animation and Mo-cap enthusiasts, students and hobbyist’s alike,” said IKinema CEO Alexandre Pechev.

“Sourcing funds to integrate costly software used by larger studios is a real concern for a lot of individuals. Superior results are still required and WebAnimate’s excellent production level tools and techniques fill’s this growing gap.”

IKinema began the public Beta for rigging and motion capture data tool WebAnimate in December 2011. Available during this period for free, the tool allowed users to fashion rigs, manipulate bones and retarget/customise motion capture data and animation, as well as porting motion capture data from cloud or local sources directly to their models.
