TeePee Games, the makers of games discovery networks, is building a service that looks to become something of a Pinterest for games.
GamesGrabr is an upcoming “pinboard-style” website and smartphone app specifically tailored for gaming culture that will allow users to create, discover and manage game-based collections.
Users will be able to create collections of their favourite games and products by ‘grabbing’ games, images and videos from across the web using GamesGrabr’s ‘GRABit’ button. Established social networking functions, such as following fellow users, sharing, rating and so on, will be present.
“GamesGrabr aims to connect users with the same gaming interests and make it easier to find great games and gaming stuff. There are lots of online publications that discuss gamer culture, but none have enabled gamers to share, curate and discover new games and gaming products in one place,” said Tony Pearce, CEO of TeePee Games and GamesGrabr.
TeePee aims to connect its users to games and services through affiliate deals with games publishers and developers. It also has plans for partnerships with online retailers to point users in the direction of console games, hardware, accessories and other gaming products.
The service bears resemblance to popular social networking site, Pinterest. The social photo sharing website allows users to curate themed collections on hobbies and interests. It has been a huge hit with female users, becoming a hub for sharing images related to fashion, arts and crafts and recipes. Females accounted for 68 per cent of the site visits worldwide earlier this year, and Pinterest quickly attracted the attention of fashion, retail and media businesses as a result.
One of the ways Pinterest has been looking to make money is through outbound links. TeePee’s GamesGrabr looks to be heading along similar lines with its affiliate links.
GamesGrabr is scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2013 and will be available online and as an Android and iOS app.
