Partnership between YoYo Games and Microsoft also covers Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8

GameMaker: Studio users will now be able to export their games for Xbox One, thanks to a new deal between YoYo Games and Microsoft.

The agreement also adds support for current Microsoft platforms such as Windows RT, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1, as well as future versions of the operating system.

Xbox One support is expected to be implemented in Q4 2014, and will be made available to all members of Microsoft's licensed Xbox developer programmes such as ID@Xbox.

GameMaker: Studio has quickly become one of the engines of choice for indies, with notable creations including Hotline Miami and its upcoming sequel. The original Hotline Miami fared particularly well on PlayStation platforms, but has yet to make it onto Xbox.

"This is a great day for GameMaker: Studio developers," said YoYo Games' CEO Sandy Duncan. "We're absolutely thrilled to strengthen our partnership with Microsoft and to give our community the ability to publish to Xbox One for the first time.

"We're especially excited that this agreement will bring continued and future support for all Microsoft platforms."
