European publisher's mobile business marks 31 percent growth

Gameloft boasted record revenues of $83.4 million as the company continues to thrive on free-to-play earnings.

The European publisher said the €61.7 million in sales for Q3 2013 represented growth of 17 percent calculated with constant exchange rates.

This overall improvement was put down to success in the free-to-play business model as well as overall growth on smartphones and tablets.

That later category grew 31 percent year over year and represents 69 percent of Gameloft's total sales.

Steady growth on mobile platforms might have more to do with the company's improved free-to-play performance.

Gameloft gets 80 percent of its smartphone revenues from free-to-play games, and the company thanks this strategy for drawing a vast audience of 140 million users in the last 30 days.

Players are also sticking with Gameloft games for the long haul – over 80 percent of the company's revenue for the first nine months of the year came from titles that launched before 2013.

The publisher's full-year revenues for 2013 are expected to fall between €235 million a €240 million.
