Mobile game maker brushes off slow start to the year and says its upcoming titles will drive up its sales
Gameloft has grown by just four per cent year-on-year for the first quarter of 2014, in the absence of any major titles.
Sales for the first three months of 2014, ending March 31st, totalled €56.2 million (£46.4m)
But, in publisher’s eyes its constant-exchange-rate growth – 12 per cent – “remained particularly solid in the absence of major project launches since summer 2013”.
The mobile game publisher said revenue generated in the first quarter of 2014 increased by over 30 per cent compared with the last quarter of 2013, driven mostly from its back catalogue titles such as World at Arms, Order & Chaos Online, Ice Age Village and UNO & Friends.
Gameloft said this showed “sequential growth compared with the holiday season”.
The mobile company recently launched a film tie-in to The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which was one of the most downloaded paid for apps on the Apple App Store upon its release.
Despite the slow start, the publisher said it is on track drive up its sales in the coming quarters, thanks to upcoming games such as Dungeon Gems, Modern Combat 5: Blackout, Rival Knights, Ice Age Adventures, Cars and Asphalt Overdrive.
In March, Gameloft announced that it had made £161m in profit in 2013.
