Latest update brings improved Wii and PC support; XSI 6.5 integration

Emergent has released the latest update to its Gamebryo game engine, bringing the technology up to version 2.6.

Chief improvements in the upgrade – which was completed by Emergent within four months thanks to the engine's internal flexibility – include large-scale improvements for the Wii, including support for Wii-specific texture formats, reduced memory requirements and for the Emergent Terrain System.

The engine's DirectX 10 performance also gets a boost with this update, mostly focusing on support for D3D10 FX shaders. Gamebryo's animation system has also received an upgrade, reducing data redundancy when instancing animation data and improving all-round memory usage by up to 40 per cent.

Integrations with other technologies and packages have also been improved, upgrading support for Softimage XSI 6.5 and Nvidia's PhysX.
