Value calculated from latest $100m-to-$150m funding round

Free-to-play developer Supercell worth $800m

Finland-based free-to-play developer Supecell is thought to be worth around $800 million after its latest funding round.

As reported by TechCrunch, the Clash of Clans and Hay Day studio has sold off between 16 and 20 per cent of its common shares for somewhere in the region of $100 to $150 million.

Investors in the firm are rumoured to be Institutional Venture Partners, Atomico and Index Ventures.

The company had allegedly also got close to reaching a value of $1 billion, but fell just short of the mark.

Supercell declined to confirm or deny the details of the funding round, and stated: “We simply will not comment on market rumours. We’ve never really done that and will not do that now.”

The Finnish studio shot to fame last October when it revealed that its two free-to-play titles were generating $500,000 a day for the company.

In January, the developer reported that this had in fact doubled, with the firm now earning more than $1 million a day in revenue from the two games.

According to the App Annie Index, Supercell was the 2nd highest earning publisher on iOS during December, just behind EA, which has over 950 apps on the App Store.
