Leading global industry event partners with Google for early bird promotion

Free Google Nexus One mobiles in GDC offer

Developers attending this year’s Game Developers Conference will get the chance to pick up Google’s new Nexus One ‘superphone’ if they register early.

The offer comes as the pivotal industry event evolves to adopt further mobile-centric discussion and business. Develop and Develop Online recently announced it was going to become an official media partner at GDC.

Mobile and handheld games will have a dedicated summit at this year’s GDC. That adds to an existing summit on independent games and developers, of which mobile devices are a common platform of choice.

The corresponding Independent Games Festival Awards, meanwhile, will honour one deserving studio the Mobile award for handheld game innovation.

Google will be giving developers a Nexus One handset, or a Motorola Verizon Droid, providing they register for the event before February 4.

"At the GDC, we are constantly looking for ways to help the game development community learn and thrive,” said GDC event director Meggan Scavio, “and the mobile and independent game spaces having been providing so many of those opportunities for years now.”

Early bird rates for GDC 2010 are still open, also earmarked to end February 4.
