Developer to bring triple-A talent to mobile gaming, says founder Gerry Sakkas

Three former Visceral Games developers have launched a new mobile studio in Australia called PlaySide.

Founded by game designer Gerry Sakkas and ex Visceral devs Aaron Pasias and Mark Goulopoulos, the new studio aims to bring triple-A quality talent to create games for the mobile space.

“The goal was to create a studio with people who were accustomed to aiming for triple-A quality, take that talent, and tailor it to a mobile audience,” said PlaySide CEO Sakkas, as reported by Kotaku.

“We believe our studio has something really special in the sense that we can create quality assets, characters, design and stories for any platform."

He added: “We are all about making a completely tailored experience for the mobile platform, with the added quality and polish of a console game.

“Our biggest goals are to create unique and loveable characters and to make a real impact on the mobile games industry.”

Sakkas said the Melbourne-based studio will begin production on its mobile games on January 16th.

Visceral Games, an EA studio, closed down on September 19th this year despite reportedly having worked on a multiplatform project for three years, and was subsequently cancelled.

Sakkas said he was offered work for EA in the US, but rejected this opportunity and has decided to open his own studio.
