Real-time particle effects tech comes to Apple portables

Fork Particle debuts iOS SDK

Particle effects outfit Fork Particle has released a version of its tech made specifically for iOS devices.

The Fork Particle Mobile SDK for Apple iOS offers users the ability to create particle effects in both 2D and 3D spaces. It will be free for both commercial and personal uses.

“Particle effects created with the Fork Particle toolkit add polish to graphics in mobile game products,” said Fork Particle founder and CEO Noor Khawaja. “Those effects markedly improve visual quality and provide a unique realism to bring out the awe in game play.”

Users of the iOS SDK will have access to a number of features, including fire, explosion, smoke and firework effects.

Fork Particle’s latest SDK consists of two major components; the Fork Particle Runtime and Fork Particle Studio particle effects editor. The Fork Particle Runtime engine brings in the Fork Particle effect assets created into a project, and displays the particle effect as you see it in Fork Particle Studio.

The Fork Particle Runtime also provides plug-and-play particle engine integration, boasting support for OpenGL ES 1.1 and OpenGL ES 2.0.

“We are excited to bring our solution to mobile developers, “said Khawaja. “This new application enables developers to add particle effects to their game products to ensure optimal graphics quality, even as part of the most challenging of production schedules," adding: "It is superb technology that’s easy to use and a quick way to incorporate fantastic game particle effects from a simple magic effect to multi-stage explosions.”
