Social networking site will now offer paid apps

Facebook readies for App Store launch

Facebook has unvieled plans to introduce an app sales platform called the App Center, expanding support for developers using the Facebook API.

The store will be available in "the coming weeks" and, according to an official blog post, will allow paid apps on Facebook.

This is an important change in a strategy that has exclusively targeted freeium and free to play apps for the social networking site.

Facebook’s Aaron Brady says the App Center is designed to help people find social apps, support developers in growing their apps, and open opportunities for a wider array of apps to be successful.

"Many developers have been successful with in-app purchases, but to support more types of apps on Facebook.com, we will give developers the option to offer paid apps," said Brady.

"This is a simple-to-implement payment feature that lets people pay a flat fee to use an app on Facebook.com."

Brady claims The App center will only list an app if it maintains a minimum standard of ratings and quality, but did not go into much detail.

Interested developers still have time to find out how to get their app listed for launch, and can follow the above link to the blog post for more information.
