Finnish start-up to launch first title in the near future

Ex-Rovio trio Boomlagoon gets financial backing

Finnish startup Boomlagoon has secured financial backing and will soon launch its first game.

Former Angry Birds developers Antti Stén, Tuomas Erikoinen, and Ilkka Halila formed the studio in April but have only now secured a deal with Jari Ovaskainen and London Venture Partners to make their official debut.

Stén has previous startup experience at Digital Chocolate and is credited with building Rovio’s cloud architecture from scratch.

Erikoinen was one of the original Angry Birds team members, providing the visuals for the mega-franchise.

A veteran of the indie and open source community, Halila was lead programmer at Rovio.

Ovaskainen and LVP’s David Gardner are joining the Boomlagoon board.

“Boomlagoon has the skills, knowledge and industry experience required to develop world class games," said Ovaskainen.

"They are on track for building a massive business franchise with a compelling pipeline of upcoming titles.”

"The Boomlagoon guys have a sense of style and an effortless understanding of what is fun in a game," added Gardner.

"When I first met with the team in Finland I knew they were onto something great, and immediately wanted to help them realise their creative dreams."
