Enterprising UK studio Eutechnyx could open a new studio in Dundee following heavy job losses in the area.
The firm says it has “gone through one of the biggest periods of growth in its 23 year history”, having just secured “substantial investment” for its latest MMO game, Auto Club Revolution.
“We have been considering a studio in Scotland for some time, having worked with developers based there for a number of years” said Eutechnyx CEO Brian Jobling.
“By forming a studio in Dundee developers who wish to remain in the area can do so, and have the opportunity to become part of a new chapter in Eutechnyx’s future”
Dundee, once a champion of the Scottish game industry, last week saw grave staff losses at two of its studios.
PS3-focused developers Cohort shed 27 staff, while Realtime Worlds snapped under the sheer expense of its VC-funded (and ultimately unpopular) online game APB.
Earlier in the year, Dundee group Denki axed the vast majority of its staff after failing to score a publishing deal for its acclaimed puzzle title Quarrel.
But UK outfit Eutechnyx has been more fortunate in an era where the stakes are placed so high for indies.
The group has a 200-strong workforce over four studios in Gateshead, USA, Hong Kong and China. Dundee would mark the group’s fifth studio.
