Jury finds for Epic 'on all counts', claims studio VP Mark Rein

Epic Games has been awarded $4.5m after the company won its protracted lawsuit against Silicon Knights yesterday.

The Too Human developer had sought $58m in damages over what it claimed were failures in Epic’s support for Unreal Engine 3, causing a disappointing critical and commercial response to the 2007 release.

But putting an end to the five-year lawsuit yesterday, Epic VP Mark Rein revealed on twitter: “Case over. Jury finds for Epic on all counts”.

The studio also told CVG that the North Carolina court judge had also awarded $4.5m to Epic in its countersuit against Silicon Knights after claims the studio had stolen ‘trade secrets’ with regards to UE3.

The studio will also be able to request a full reimbursement of its legal fees to the court.

The court ruling will be a big blow to Canada developer Silicon Knights, which last November had laid off at least 45 employees, with just under 40 remaining at the studio.
