New version of engine encourages faster development times, says tech firm

Emergent has today released the latest version of its Gamebryo engine, version 2.3 - and the company says that the updated platform allows faster development with fewer resources.

New features and capabilities include Rendering Framework, an object-based rendering framework that allows for easy programmatic construction of complex rendering effects; new functions for multi-core processing; DX10 Support; Shadow System, a system which includes automatic tool chain support for variance shadow mapping, edge tap smoothed PCF shadow mapping, and general shadow mapping; and the integration of Ageia's PhysX.

Geoffrey Selzer, CEO of Emergent, commented: “Whether you have a three person or three hundred person development house, one of your biggest ongoing concerns is managing exploding development budgets for next-generation platforms.

“While decreasing the cost of production and time to market, Gamebryo 2.3’s tool set delivers a significant technological leap forward, which will aid developers in an environment where multi-threaded development means vastly different things on different platforms.”

He added: "What we are demonstrating in the release of 2.3 is just the beginning of an ambitious roadmap that will keep developers ahead of the trends and always at the forefront of progressive game development."

Gamebryo part of Emergent's Elements modular tools family is is currently being used to make a number of Disney Interactive Studios titles and EA-Mythic's upcoming Warhammer Online.
