CFO says company does have titles in development for Nintendo's new console

EA does have games in development for Nintendo's Wii U, says CFO Blake Jorgensen.

This comes as a surprise after a statement last week from company spokesperson Jeff Brown, who claimed the publisher wasn't currently working on any titles for the new console.

"We are building titles for the Nintendo console, but not anywhere near as many as we are for PS or Xbox," Jorgensen told Polygon.

To Jorgensen the Wii U is less of a departure from the previous generation than the new consoles from Sony and Microsoft.

"You know, I think Nintendo's business was more [an] extension of their last console," he said.

Even so it remains to be seen if consumers will take to the newer services of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and EA is witholding judgement until the people have spoken.

"I think what the consumer will find is a lot more powerful gameplay with the new boxes that are coming out, and a lot of excitement," said Jorgensen, "but it'll remain to be seen as to the services associated with those as to how consumers decide which direction they might want to go."

If EA does have games in the works for the Wii U, it's most likely either part of a currently unannounced IP or part of a more obscure franchise.

Neither Madden or FIFA will return to the console this year, and with no Frostbite 3 support for the Wii U it is unlikely that Battlefield 4, Dragon Age III, the next Mass Effect, or the new Star Wars games will appear on the platform.
