Waystone's Dawngate brings EA into competition with DoTA and League of Legends

Electronic arts has become the latest to cash in on the popular MOBA genre with Dawngate from Waystone Games.

Games like League of Legends, Heroes of Newerth and Defense of the Ancients have become massive success stories of late and are drawing attention to the highly competitive Multiplayer Online Battle Arena genre.

With Valve's DoTA 2 gaining ground on League of Legends, EA has decided the time is right for its own offering in the growing market.

Sign-ups for the Dawngate beta test are up, but there is currently no mention of when it will begin.

Eurogamer suggests that Waystone is a spin-off of Visceral games on the grounds that the latter studio was reported to be working on a MOBA last October.

EA's strategy for Dawngate seems similar to that of previous newcomers, with the game "built from the ground up to look and feel familiar".
