Licensing deal allows UK firm to develop new games based on series engine
Microsoft has signed a partnership with Dovetail Games that allows the UK developer and publisher to create and publish new games based on the technology behind the Flight Simulator series.
Dovetail is now looking at new concepts for a flight simulation title and plans to release a new game based on the technology from Flight Simulator X in 2015.
The deal also allows the firm to re-release Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Gold Edition via Steam. This is due by the end of the year.
"When it comes to licensing our simulation engine, Dovetail Games is the obvious choice for us to work with," said Microsoft executive producer Kevin Perry. "We respect their approach in terms of delivering premium quality simulation games and look forward to seeing their vision of the next chapter in flight simulations unfold."
Microsoft Flight Simulator X was released in 2006, followed by the free-to-play Microsoft Flight in 2012.
