Major deal will breathe new life into struggling Dundee sector, studio says
Scottish indie outfit Tag Games has struck a deal with BBC Worldwide to produce a Doctor Who game on both iPhone and iPad.
The news brings some much-needed sunshine to the Dundee development cluster, which recently felt the chill as its largest studio Realtime Worlds collapsed under financial pressure.
Tag Games, which has created handheld and mobile titles such as Car Jack Streets, recently opened up an App division, turning its attention to the non-game app market after unexpectedly storming the lifestyle chart on Apple’s UK App Store.
But, as the Doctor Who title demonstrates, the firm’s focus remains on games.
Robert Henning, head of technology at Tag Games said the deal “shows there is still something positive we can bring to the sector.”
He told The Courier: “Doctor Who is the UK's number one science fiction property, and I think it is in the BBC's top three for worldwide sales, so it is great to bring it to Dundee — especially in light of what happened at Realtime Worlds and the effect it had on Dundee.”
