Discover two free tools for testing your Android apps

One of the biggest challenges developers face is the diversity of devices out there that run Android. How can you be confident that your app will run well on most of them, without spending weeks on testing, and a fortune on devices?

The answer is to use cloud-based testing services. They enable you to upload your app, and then have it tested across their collection of physical devices. Using these services, you can test your app on a range of devices based on the Intel Atom processor and on other architectures, so you can be confident that your app works across a wide range of phones and tablets.

There are two services you can use to test your app on Intel Android devices for free:

• Testdroid Cloud supports all the mainstream test automation frameworks, including Appium, Calabash, Robotium, uiautomator, UI Automation, and Espresso. The Testdroid Interactive feature provides instant remote access to any of the devices based on the Intel Atom processor using a web browser.

• Appthwack is another cloud-based testing service. Usually, customers are charged based on the number of device minutes used each month, but for Intel Android devices, the service is free. It enables you to test on six Intel Android devices: Asus MeMO Pad FHD 10, Dell Venue 7, Dell Venue 8, Lenovo IdeaPhone K900, Motorola Droid RAZR I, and Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10. The test results can include screenshots showing what your app looks like on the different platforms.
