The Intel Software Conference took place in April in Seville, an invitation-only event at which customers and journalists learned more about Intel’s latest tools and technologies. We were there, so we can now reveal some of the highlights that are most relevant to game and mobile developers.
One of the themes at the event was programmer productivity, and a significant threat to that is the multiplatform device landscape, which greatly complicates the challenge of getting working software to users. Intel® Integrated Native Developer Experience (INDE) is a suite of tools that enables programmers to write fast C++ code that targets multiple operating systems and architectures. It integrates with your existing developer environment, and includes a number of tools to help with testing and debugging, including Intel® Hardware Accelerated Execution Manager (Intel HAXM), which enables full-speed Android emulation, and the Graphics Frame Debugger, which makes it easier to see the effect of changes in OpenGL code.
The event also included an introduction to Intel® XDK, a free HTML5 cross-platform development kit that brings together quick-start templates and the Apache Cordova APIs for cross-platform access to hardware features of devices, among other features.
The Intel® C/C++ Compiler has been updated too, with a number of optimisations for quicker compilation.
Increasingly often apps are built around video capabilities. Streaming video has become one of the killer applications for the Internet, and the foundation of many content creation, distribution and licensing businesses. The Intel® Media SDK makes it easier to incorporate accelerated video encoding and decoding in your applications, and the Intel® Media Server Studio can be used for developing and testing your server back-end.
