DICE puts Faith in PhysX

EAâ??s latest console chart release Mirrorâ??s Edge showcases Nvidia physics tech

Leading graphics and GPU manufacturer Nvidia has been shouting loudly about Swedish developer DICE’s use of its PhysX engine in the recently released next-gen platformer-come-shooter Mirror’s Edge.

Nvidia’s tech is the beast behind in-game physics effects such as the effect wind and the environment have on player movement, as well as the spectacular particle effects offered by the explosions.

“Faith’s world in Mirror’s Edge is visceral, immediate, and very dangerous; it is imperative that the gameplay reflect this level of urgency,” DICE’s senior producer Owen O’Brien stated.

“Nvidia PhysX technology affords us the ability to bring a totally new level of immersion to the game, and by doing so, gamers can truly become part of the world.”

Nvidia’s VP of its GeForce desktop business Ujesh Desai added: “If you love intense combat scenes, fast-paced chases, and sky-high adventures then Mirror’s Edge is the game for you. Gamers will appreciate the greater freedom of movement, including sliding under barriers, tumbling, wall-running, and shimmying across ledges – all within an environment that is dynamic and immersive, delivered in part by our PhysX technology.”

PhysX has to date been used in over 140 titles on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and PC.
