CandyJam started to combat 'trademark trolling'

Developers mock King candy trademark with parody game jam

A number of developers have begun a game jam focusing on the theme of candy following King’s trademark claims over the use of the word.

The Candy Crush developer applied to trademark the use of the word candy in relation to games, and has begun making claims against companies with what it deems have similar titles to its own IP.

In response, developers ‘T-Wave’ (@uuav) and Caribou (@caribouloche) are hosting a CandyJam to fight what they call "trademark trolling". The pair have since been tweeting entries for the jam on their Twitter accounts.

Rules include making a game involving candies, the consideration of using the word candy several times, and it also jokingly suggests other terms including scroll, memory, saga and apple "might give bonus points".

The deadline for the game jam is February 3rd.
