Developer Volition lays off over 30 staff – Kotaku

Developer Volition, the studio behind the Saints Row series, has reportedly laid off over 30 staff according to a report from Kotaku.

The developer, who most recently released Agents of Mayhem, has been moved about a bit in recent years following its acquisition by publisher Deep Silver after its former owner THQ went bankrupt. According to Jason Schreier’s news post, three sources have confirmed that the studio is laying off staff with general manager, Dan Cermak one of those affected.

Volition, based in Illinois, currently employs 200 people according to a recent update to its Wikipedia page. All of its IPs were acquired by Deep Silver when it was purchased in 2013 with the exception of Red Faction and Summoner, which were acquired by then Nordic Games (now THQ Nordic).

The studio had continued its development of the Saints Row franchise with Saints Row 4 remastered for next generation consoles and packaged with standalone DLC, Gat out of Hell. Its newest title, Agents of Mayhem, failed to impress critics and it debuted at number four on the UK charts over a month ago. Set in the Saints Row universe, Agents of Mayhem was an original story released on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. It has dropped out of the top 20 after only three weeks.

We hope all affected staff will find new employment speedily.
