Company seeking to "reduce burn rate"
Developer Motiga, currently working on MOBA Gigantic which is currently in open beta, have laid off a fifth of its staff.
These layoffs were confirmed by Destructoid, who said that 15 of the studio's 82 employees were laid off today, mostly in the business and operations side of the business.
"Any kind of layoff is tough, but this was done to reduce our burn rate until we get to Arc launch which will happen in a few months."said Chris Chung, the CEO and co-founder of Motiga. He also pointed out that these redundancies will not affect the forthcoming Arc launch, set for "second quarter 2017."
Arc is Perfect World's games platform, an alternative to Steam that largely serves as a portal to free-to-play games.
Motiga and Gigantic have had a rough ride. Originally the title was to launch as an exclusive for the Xbox One and Windows 10 store, until Microsoft pulled out of publishing the title a year later. Gigantic was then forced to find additional platforms to publish on, and it seems layoffs are now a regular occurrence. The most recent redundancies at the company were in February 2016, although they also let a chunk of people go in December 2015, too.
