Below is Develop’s monthly breakdown of the world’s most successful games studios, measured by UK revenue at retail, with data provided by GfK Chart-Track.

The Develop Studios Sales Charts will be published on Develop-Online.net’s news pages at the end of each month.

Please note that digital sales are not included in the calculations, nor are retail transactions made outside the UK. The chart is intended to provide a snapshot of the most bankable studios in the world today.

Volition has shot to number one following the release of its tongue-in-cheek action game, Saint’s Row IV. The developer and game were saved by Koch Media following THQ’s collapse early this year.

The latest Splinter Cell title Blacklist has helped Ubisoft Toronto to claim second place this month.

After leading the studio charts for two successive months, thanks to its PS3 blockbuster The Last of Us, Naughty Dog has slipped to fifth place.

Only three developers in this month’s chart are independent: Next Level Games, Overkill Software and 4J Studios. The latter was also the only one in the top ten and was responsible for the boxed copy of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition.

4J Studios, Traveller’s Tales and Rockstar North were also the only UK studios in this month’s top 20. With GTA V only two weeks away, Rockstar’s last major crime outing, Grand Theft Auto IV, landed the developer at number 14 this month.
