New conference introduced to run alongside Develop and Evolve at July event
This year's Develop in Brighton conference will host a new element called Indie Dev Day.
Taking place on Thursday, July 21st, the one day conference offers a number of half-hour crafted specifically for established indies, start-ups, developers considering a move to independence, freelancers and students.
There will also be an Indie Dev Showcase area in the main Develop in Brighton expo that will give indie's work in progress projects a wider audience.
“Over the last six years we’ve always worked hard to make sure that the Develop Conference is an all-inclusive event with content and networking opportunities that are relevant to all sectors of the European development community,” said Andy Lane, managing director or organiser Tandem Events.
“In recent years, the industry has seen a huge growth of indie developers and micro studios producing great games for mobile and online platforms. This trend is growing year on year, and so we feel the time is right to respond with dedicated content focused solely on the needs of the indie.”
The Indie Dev Day sessions provide delegates with a chance to share experiences in developing games for indie-friendly platforms such as XBLA, PSN, Steam, Facebook and iOS. Case study material from successful indie developers large and small will also be presented, and a special networking lunch will give attendees a chance to meet with industry veterans.
“The Indie Dev Day at this year’s Develop is a fantastic idea. It’s great to see that this growing trend in the UK has been recognised and reflected in the content of the event. It’s a rare chance for the indie community to get together,” said Sean Murray of Joe Danger studio Hello Games.
