EA Redwood Shores name ditched to emphasise focus on 'developing best-in-breed action games'

EA has rebranded the studio behind Dead Space to Visceral Games.

Formerly called EA Redwood Shores, the move has been made to underline the fact the studio is now focusing on high-end action titles.

It's currently working on Dante's Inferno, co-developing a Wii Dead Space spin-off, and surely working on the inevitable Dead Space 2 – presumably one of the two unannounced title EA today confirmed the team to be working on.

The studio is run by Glen Schofield and part of the EA Games label. EA SVP Nick Earl oversees the studio and Schofield as part of his remit that also includes Maxis, EA LA and Pandemic. The studio is still based at EA's corporate HQ and still shares offices with The Sims Studio.

“Action, intensity, excellence. It isn’t just in our DNA, it’s in our blood,” said Schofield. “For the past two years, we have adopted a new culture that prizes excellence above all else. Primal action is the beating heart of the studio and now our new name reflects that.”

News of the rebranding was originally mooted last year.
