Mobile development platform supports iOS, Android, Kindle and NOOK

Corona Labs has launched a free starter version of its mobile software development kit.

Called Corona SDK Starter, the free edition has been released to open up the development platform to a wider userbase of indies and hobbyist devs.

The starter version can be used to created full-featured apps for iOS, Android, Kindle and NOOK, and is set to support more platforms in the near future.

More advanced features of the Corona SDK can be accessed via an upgrade to Corona SDK Pro or Corona Enterprise.

“Corona’s initial momentum came from the indie community and we want to do as much as possible to further encourage new developers to take up mobile development,” said Corona Labs CEO Walter Luh.

“Corona SDK Starter eliminates all barriers in mobile development and we’re excited to see more developers join the mobile revolution and build amazing experiences.”

As well as a new Starter SDK, the company also recently released Corona Cloud, offering multiplayer support, leaderboard and achievement functionality, and features to allow chat, push notifications, analytics, social integration and more.
