League of Legends to be one of the first US developed online titles directly targeting the Chinese market
Riot Games, the independent developer and publisher of online title League of Legends: Clash of Fates, has struck a deal with Chinese internet firm Tencent which will see its title enter the region’s online games market.
League of Legends will be made available to the 300 million users of Tencent’s QQ Game Portal, and becomes one of the only US-developed titles to directly target Chinese gamers.
“Tencent has proven itself to be a leader in the Chinese online gaming market with an unparalleled ability to drive customers to new products,” co-founder and CEO of Riot Games Brandon Beck stated. “This agreement demonstrates Riot Games' long-term commitment to bringing our products to a global audience.”
Tencent’s executive VP Mark Ren added: “We are excited to bring League of Legends to the Chinese market. With the passionate creative talent behind one of the most popular mods of all time that is extremely popular in China, DotA-Allstars, League of Legends is sure to capture the attention of a Chinese gaming audience.”
