Free modding platform allows users to create new landscapes and edit dialogue

The Witcher studio CD Projekt Red has sent its development toolset RedKit into open beta.

The tech, which is based on the company’s own in-house development platform, the RedEngine, is now available for anyone to use.

CD Projekt said the tools can be used by modders of all skill levels, and contains a number of ready-made assets and artwork from the Wither 2: Assassins and Kings, as well as offering developers the ability to edit dialogue, create new environments, create day-night cycles and mod the original game.

To gain access to the development kit, users must have a PC version of the Witcher 2 installed.

Issues currently being worked on in open beta include decreasing file size during the cooking process when making changes to the original game, and fixing lipsync problems for new dialogue trees.

“For CD Projekt RED, RPGs are all about telling amazing stories,” said Adam Badowski, head of CD Projekt Red.

“We want to give players the power to tell the same kind of non-linear, branching stories that made The Witcher games so popular. Our fans have helped us for years to make our games the best they can be, and Redkit is part of embracing our community as a partner in game development.”
