CD Projekt Red making ‘drastic’ changes to dev tools for Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt Red is overhauling its technology in anticipation of its next major release.

Cyberpunk 2077 was announced four years ago while the developer was still hard at work on the third and final The Witcher instalment, which was released last year to critical acclaim and record sales.

“The most important thing that’s happening at the moment is that the programmers are taking the feedback we gave them from working on The Witcher,” visual effects artist Jose Teixeira told iDigitalTimes.

“As cliche as it sounds, it was a big learning experience.”

He added that key among the discussions following The Witcher III’s launch was the need to implement new dev tool features.

“The programmers are updating our software quite drastically,” he explained.

Cyberpunk is yet to have a solid release date confirmed, with rumours pinning the title’s launch anywhere between next year and – as CD Projekt Red itself regularly jokes – 2077.

Teixeira previously told MCV that the game is “far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt Red has done before”.

"The Witcher helped Cyberpunk quite a bit, because the game got so big and so complex that it really taught us,” he continued.

“Working on The Witcher III was a really good and often brutal learning experience. Cyberpunk is going to benefit greatly from it. I can almost guarantee it.

“We’re really stepping into the unknown in terms of complexity and size and problems we encounter.”
