Stainless Games building download-only rebirth; seeks dev partner
The original studio that kicked off the Carmageddon series is about to launch the game back into the spotlight.
Stainless Games, the longstanding indie group based in the Isle of Wight, is building a new download-only game based on the iconic series.
The new title, called Carmageddon: Reincarnation, is in early stages of development and set for a 2012 release.
Stainless Games is actively seeking a partner to move the project onto full production, the studio said.
"Carmageddon has returned to its Indie developer roots, and the time is right to bring the game to a new audience,” said studio CEO Patrick Buckland.
“Originally an ambitious title that tested the hardware limits of its day, we’re excited that the game will finally get the showcase it deserves on today’s platforms.”
Carmageddon broke onto the scene in 1997, quickly gaining notoriety for its 18-rated content. It shot to the top of the UK charts in its first week, and Stainless’ sequel achieved the same.
The brand was bought by SCi and commissioned to numerous other studios, but had deflated in popularity.
